Review – Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

According to Hannah Baker, there are thirteen sides to every story. And there are thirteen reasons why she swallowed a handful of pills, and left this world for good. When thirteen tapes show up on Clay’s doorstep just two weeks after Hannah–his classmate and crush– commits suicide, he’s intrigued. Then he presses play, and his life turns inside out. Hannah Baker is back, but only to explain why she left. But if he got the tapes, that means he is one of the thirteen reasons why. Throughout the course of one night, Clay travels through his hometown with Hannah’s voice playing through a Walkman, and nothing will look or feel the same again.

I finally had time to read this book, I was planning to read this back when I was in College but I don’t know why I never had time to read it. But I’m glad I didn’t read it because College was a roller coaster life and something in this book might trigger me I dont know, but I’m just glad I didn’t read it that time.

This book is sad, tragic, dark and heartbreaking for me. I find it hard to describe this book because this book is too painful to read, it’s just hard to read Hannah Baker’s tragic experiences and you know that these things really happens in the real world we live in.

While reading it, I feel bad for Hannah because she doesn’t deserve it no one deserves that. And you can’t really blame her for her choices, it’s just that she was surrounded by jerks and she didn’t get the help she needed. Also in this book, I never felt so much hatred for the characters, too many characters to hate! I freaking hate Bryce because he’s the one triggered Hannah to end it.

A part of me was feeling envious of Hannah Baker. Envious of one thing she did — that one thing she did cos I don’t have the guts to do it.

This book is so sad but it will make you more realize of the stuff you do to other people, even the tiniest bit has an effect on their life. We need to be careful on what we say and do to others, lets just be kind to one another because we don’t know whats really happening with their life. In short, DON’T BE A JERK! I know it doesn’t need a book for you to know and make you realize this stuff. We should know this because it’s what we need.

If you are going through something, I know its hard trust me I know. You just want everything to stop but please seek help, talk to someone cause it will make you feel a lot better. If you don’t have someone to talk, you can talk to me and I’ll try my best to answer and find time for you. There are support hotlines in this website http://13reasonswhy.info/ . There’s nothing wrong in seeking help when you need it.

Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything. . . affects everything.”

8/10

Review: Lovely Little Lonely – The Maine

The Maine just recently released their new studio album Lovely Little Lonely, its their 6th Studio album after American Candy. I started listening to this band during the Forever Halloween era (yeah, better late than never), I started listening to their albums and fell in love with their music. I love how deep and honest their music is and the connection between me and their music is there and that’s why I love them.

American Candy was a great album, I love every song in that album and its one of my all time favorite albums ever released, So I have hopes with this new album but we all know that The Maine never disappoints. This band is so consistent when creating their music, they never created a bad one or changes their music to fit in on the mainstream music. One thing I also love about them is they make sure they give what their fans deserve which is great music.

Lovely Little Lonely expresses subtle differences from American Candy, the album outlines the highs and lows of youth and the transition into adulthood. The album makes sure to represent the feelings that we are unsure of many things in life. This album highlights both the uncertainties and the things we are sure of as we progress in life. Its Nostalgic, Sad and happy all the same time.

I love all the songs but my favorite songs so far are:

Lovely + Black Butterflies and Deja Vu
The transition from Lovely to Black Butterflies and Deja Vu was pure eargasm, I freaking love it! It’s the first song that immediately got my attention.

Taxi
This song gives me the vibe of 24 Floors from American Candy, it has a nostalgic feeling that you will relate to. The song tells the story of two people contemplating life and the hardships comes with it. They find comfort in each other to keep going through the toughest of times.

The Sound of Reverie

“Don’t blink because you will
And when you open up your eyes again
You may not recognize a friend”

This line got stuck in my head after listening to it. Also this line of the song reminds us that things change in an instant, in just a blink of an eye and nothing can be taken for granted.

Lost in Nostalgia
This song is a short but sweet track featuring soft vocals of John and calming instruments. ” Don’t you get lost in nostalgia, no” Yes, Dont get lost in nostalgia while listening to the album.

There are more great songs in the album but these are my personal favorites. The album is very solid and worth listening. Once you listen to it you’ll crave more and you’ll wish they added more tracks to it, that’s how good the album is. I also love that it is still has the vibe that is easily recognizable as The Maine, Definitely going to be one of my favorite albums this year.

If you havent listen to it, you better check it now. You wont regret it I swear.

Another heartbreaking movie adaptation hitting the big screen today, A story between a quirky funny girl and a paralyzed/disabled man who doesn’t want to live his life anymore. I also posted my review of the book, you can check it here[x].

Synopsis : Young and quirky Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier. Will’s cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined.

I like it how they stay true to the book, they started the movie exactly how it is in the book. Though some stuff are missing but it didn’t really affect the whole story. These are the things I noticed missing from the movie.

1. The arguments between Clark and her sister Katrina.
2. Clark doesn’t want to work anymore when she found out about the 6 months agreement but Will’s mother begged her to continue working.
3. Will’s father is cheating to his Mom
4. Will’s sister being upset with his decision because it will give a bad reputation to their family.
5. Clark moving to his boyfriend flat
6. Clark was warned by her Mom that if she go and support Will decision, She’s cant no longer come home.

I understand these aren’t really necessary and the movie run is already 2 hours they cant fit everything.

Emilia Clarke did very well! She did justice to her character, she made everyone laugh and love the character of Louisa Clark. Same with Sam Clafflin he portrayed the arrogant and being miserable man well. These two are very good actors so I expected them to just slay it and they did! And also the chemistry between them is undeniable, it wasn’t forced, it was earned every scene. Remember when I said how I hate Patrick when I read the book? I felt the same when I watched the movie! Haha

The movie is already 2 hours long but the story felt a bit rushed. There are some dull moments but mostly people are laughing because of Louisa. And also the soundtrack was good, love all the song though for me Unsteady and Photograph was on the wrong scenes, they should’ve used it on the heartbreaking parts to add more feels. The scene on the beach was good, oh my friend was sobbing on that part. Haha For me something missing on that scene, when I was reading that part on the book oh my heart, I felt every word they say to each other, I didn’t felt that maybe because I know what will happen but for me feels like something is missing. I really love how they started and ended the film.

Overall, the movie was good! The music, the cast were great. I heard everyone laugh and cry so I guess the adaptation did its justice. Is it better than TFIOS? For me No it wasn’t but its a good movie to see.

Me Before You Book Review

I saw the trailer of You Before Me on YouTube and watched it because Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke are playing the main roles. So the trailer was heartbreakingly good well they used an Ed Sheeran track so it added more feels and also Imagine Dragons wrote a song for the movie. I got curious of the whole story of the movie so I searched it on the internet and read the sypnosis. I kinda like the story so I gave it a shot, I downloaded a copy and started reading it.

I finished almost half of the book on the first day I started it, I didn’t notice it so I decided to stop and continue it the next day. I don’t what to rush it because a. I’m currently enjoying it b. I don’t want to reach the ending yet cause I know it will break me. I’m starting to like the characters and the story, Louisa Clark’s personality is so interesting and funny. A lot of us can relate to her, the way she thinks about her life, her choices. Will Traynor was living and enjoying his life and suddenly everything changed because of an accident, you cant blame him for what he become, for being an arse at first and the choices he made. Louisa’s boyfriend Patrick is annoying, Hes not a good boyfriend to her and I just don’t like him.The book has different POVs aside from Louisa, there are POVs of Will’s and Louisa’s family and his boyfriend. Will doesn’t have his own POV on the book.

I finished the book the next day, I don’t know what to feel about it. Louisa and Will’s relationship is so adorable and cute and you just want it to continue but it obviously cant. The last few chapters are heartbreaking, The things Louisa planned for Will and every time she tears up is heartbreaking. The chapter where Louisa admitted her feelings and what she really wants for them broke my heart. Louisa explained her self well but Will’s answer are also on point. Well, you cant really blame Will for not changing his mind. You cant say he’s being selfish, hes not just doing it for himself but also for the people around him. You cant also blame Louisa for trying to change Will’s mind. He fell inlove with him, he taught him a lot of things she doesn’t know existed within her, she helped her grow into a different person. They both have a good point which makes it so hard and painful.

“All I can say is that you make me… you make me into someone I couldn’t even imagine. You make me happy, even when you’re awful. I would rather be with you – even the you that you seem to think is diminished – than with anyone else in the world.”

Damn this line fucked me up…

After what happened Louisa continued to live her life, he followed Will’s advice to have a life and there are lot of things to know than what she knows.

“I am conscious that knowing me has caused you pain, and grief, and I hope that one day when you are less angry with me and less upset you will see not just that I could only have done the thing that I did, but also that this will help you live a really good life, a better life, than if you hadn’t met me.

Don’t think of me too often. I don’t want to think of you getting all maudlin. Just live well. Just live.”

This novel was truly heart wrenching, there are points that it reminded me of Augustus and Hazel but this one is different. This book made me realize that there a lot more of this life can offer that we ever think of. We need to open our minds with possibilities, things we can do with our lives. We cant let ourselves be in a shell and be comfortable with it. And also that there are choices that we cant control, sometimes we just need to understand and accept it
especially in that situation.

“Push yourself. Don’t Settle. Just live well. Just LIVE.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 I’ll post a different entry about the trailer and soundtrack of the upcoming adaptation so watch out!

tumblr_n6qydnmrnU1r3463ko1_1280The long wait is over!! Finally one of the best selling novel of John Green hits the theaters! I think everyone is so excited to see the adaptation.

So Yesterday was the opening of the movie here in the Philippines, I’m so excited to see it and I cant wait much longer so I decided to go and watch it immediately even without a company. So yeah i watched it alone.

I had high hopes for this adaptation maybe because i love the novel too much and i don’t want the movie to ruin the story. Throughout the movie I’m having goosebumps oh lord my feels too much feels. I love how Natt (Isaac) portrayed his role and that makes me excited to see him portray the role of Quentin in Paper Towns! And then Shai (Hazel )and Ansel ( Gus), for me they did a pretty great job portraying the roles! The fact that they both played a different role in Divergent and in this movie they need to convince the audience that they are sweet teen couple, that’s a challenge! Hands down to Shailene for slaying it! I agree to John Green Shai deserves an award for that performance. Almost everyone in the cinema cried and I guess that’s a proof how good the movie and casts are!

Don`t say the book was better than the movie, Of course! For me Books are always better than the movies! And guys you don’t go watch a movie adaptation expecting it is better than the book. I don’t think that’s the right attitude.

For me the movie was good, they did stay true to the book though there are few things missing but still it was all good! As far as I know I`m satisfied with no disappointment. Two thumbs up for John Green and all the casts and crew!

And also the soundtrack! Yeah for me the best movie soundtrack of the year so far!! Man Ed Sheeran, Birdy, M83, Jake Bugg , Kodaline and many more, tell me how cant you love the soundtrack? If you want to worsen the pain after watching the movie listen to the sountrack! Okay?

Movie: 9/10

Soundtrack: 10/10

Here`s an 8tracks mix of TFIOS OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK: [ x ]
